Pollinator Ecosystem Program

Exclusively available for 4th and 5th grade students from the following independent school districts:

In line with Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Grade Four Science Standards, this free one-hour program takes fourth graders on an educational adventure immersed in the pollinator-filled ecosystem at San Antonio Botanical Garden.

Through interactive learning, students will investigate pollinator lifecycles and the adaptations that help them survive, and demonstrate this knowledge by designing their own pollinator garden. This program is for groups of up to 180 students and includes guided and self-guided components.

Fee: FREE for 4th and 5th grade students, teachers, and chaperones from Title 1 schools.

Up to $250 in bus transportation reimbursement funds available upon request with a copy of the bus invoice.

How do I schedule my 4th OR 5th grade group?

Please submit the online form. Program must be scheduled at least 2 weeks in advance of the desired date. Once the form is submitted, you will receive a confirmation letter via email with more information within 5 – 7 business days (please check your spam folder). Receiving this letter means that your group is officially scheduled for the Pollinator Ecosystem Program.

How far in advance should I schedule my 4th or 5th grade group?

Visits must be scheduled at least 2 weeks in advance of the desired date. It is recommended to reserve your preferred date as soon as possible as spaces are limited.

What is the cost? Are bus transportation funds available?

This pilot program is offered to groups from eligible schools for FREE, and up to $250 in bus transportation reimbursement funds are available per visit upon request. Please send a copy of the bus invoice to jwolanski@sabot.org for reimbursement.

What schools are eligible to participate?

This pilot program is available for 4th & 5th grade students from during the 2023-2025 school year.

What if I would like to bring students from another grade or a non title 1 school?

Please visit the Educators & School page to learn about other TEKS-based school programs in the Garden. Scholarships are available and can be requested via the Field Trip Scholarship Application.

Can I bring my entire 4th or 5th grade level?

Yes! We can accommodate 180 students per day. Larger groups may be divided over multiple days.

Where are the bus drop-off and pick-up areas?

All buses drop off students at the bus drop-off area located in front of The Betty Kelso Center.

Bus pick-up and parking is on Pinckney Street beside the Culinary Garden. Students will exit through the Culinary Garden gate.

What do we do when we arrive?

Garden staff will meet your group at the bus drop-off area and lead a quick orientation before you begin your visit to the Garden. One teacher/coordinator must check in at the front admissions kiosk with the final headcount and payment.

Are we able to bring lunch for field trips?

Yes, school field trip groups can bring sack lunches to the Garden. The Amphitheater is the best location for a picnic lunch. Wheeled coolers or sack lunches in backpacks are recommended as groups must transport their own lunches to the Amphitheater. Please make sure to clearly mark school lunches. Outside prepared or catered food is not permitted. Please help keep the Garden clean by discarding recyclables and trash in the appropriate receptacles.
