About the Exhibition
The San Antonio Botanical Garden presents Rooted, acclaimed contemporary artist Steve Tobin’s largest monumental sculpture exhibition. The exhibition includes Tobin’s Steelroots and Bronze Roots series, as well as new, nature-inspired sculptures sent directly from the artist’s studio. Over 20 sculptures are rooted throughout the Garden, inviting guests to see and experience nature’s power, grace, and complexity.

STEVE TOBIN’S TOWERING, NATURE-INSPIRED WORKS
The Garden proudly welcomes beloved work spanning the artist’s 40-year career, as well as new sculptures that make their world debut in San Antonio.
The Bronze Roots series are casts of upturned trees that expose and immortalize the intricate life beneath. The Steelroots series includes smooth, abstract root interpretations that explore negative space and shifting shadow.

About Steve Tobin
Steve Tobin is a contemporary American artist known for his dramatic, nature-inspired sculptures. He developed an interest in the fusion of art, science, and ideas as a theoretical mathematics student at Tulane University. Throughout his 40-year career, he has created organic works in glass, clay, wood, bronze, and steel. He is best known for his Trinity Root, a cast of the stump and roots of a sycamore tree that was smashed by debris during the September 11th terrorist attacks in New York City. Tobin lives and works in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
Tobin’s work has been shown in museums across the U.S. and abroad including the American Museum of Natural History in New York; the Retretti Art Centre in Punkaharju, Finland; The Carpe Diem Gallery in Paris, France; the Sanske Galerie in Zürich, Switzerland; and at the Shanghai Jing’An International Sculpture Project in Shanghai, China.
